The reset depends on the model. On a Blink Mini or Mini 2, keep it plugged in and hold the reset button on the bottom for more than 5 seconds while the light is solid red. For battery cameras such as the Outdoor 4, remove the batteries for five seconds. No reset removes a camera from a Blink account. Only Delete Device in the app does that.

Before you start

  • For a Mini: a paperclip or small screwdriver. Blink says not to use safety pins or thumbtacks.
  • For a Mini 2: take the mount off first. The button sits where the mount connects.
  • For a sale or gift: the Blink app, signed in to the account that owns the device.

  • Power cycle. Cut the power and restore it. For an offline camera, Blink says to remove the batteries for five seconds, or unplug a USB camera for five seconds, then wait 30 seconds.
  • Reset. Press the reset button to put the device back into setup mode so it can join a system or a new Wi-Fi network. On the Mini and Mini 2, Blink states that a reset does not return settings to defaults, remove the thumbnail image, or delete the camera from a system or account.
  • Delete. Remove the device from your account in the Blink app. This is the step that matters when a camera changes hands.

The 2K+ doorbells are the exception. Blink says a factory reset on those restores original factory settings and removes all stored content.

  1. Leave the camera plugged in. On a Mini 2, disconnect the mount.
  2. Check for a solid red light. It means the camera is not connected to the internet.
  3. Press and hold the reset button for more than 5 seconds. Blink’s LED guide says a blinking red and blue light is the signal to release.
  4. Wait for the blue light to blink slowly. The camera is ready to be added to a system.

To move a working Mini to a different Wi-Fi network, start in the app: tap More (…) on the camera thumbnail, then Device Settings, General Settings, Change Wi-Fi.

Power cycle it first: unplug the Sync Module, wait, and plug it back in. Blink’s Sync Module troubleshooting page says 10 seconds and its camera troubleshooting pages say 30, so wait 30. If that fails, reset it:

  1. Find the reset button on the back of the Sync Module 2, XR or Core.
  2. Press and hold it until the LED turns solid red, then release.
  3. Wait for a blinking blue LED and a solid green LED. The module is ready for setup.

Factory reset a Sync Module

Use this if the module still cannot connect to Wi-Fi. Blink lists it for the Sync Module XR+, XR, Core, 2 and 1st Gen.

  1. Unplug the Sync Module.
  2. Press and hold the reset button.
  3. Still holding it, plug the module back in and keep holding for 5 seconds.
  4. Release when the LED blinks red.
  5. Wait for blinking blue and solid green. If they do not appear, repeat the factory reset.

Blink does not say what either Sync Module reset erases. It does say that changing the Sync Module’s Wi-Fi network through the app will not delete saved clips.

Blink’s pages describe no reset button procedure for these cameras. The instruction is a power cycle: remove the batteries for five seconds, then reinsert them. The Outdoor 4 and the Outdoor and Indoor (3rd Gen) connect through the Sync Module, so you change their Wi-Fi by tapping Sync Module on the Home screen and then Change Wi-Fi Network. If the camera comes back online but misses clips, see the security camera not recording checklist.

Blink states that if the equipment is not deleted from your account, the new owner cannot add it to theirs. Delete each camera:

  1. On the Home screen, tap More (…) at the bottom right of the camera thumbnail.
  2. Tap Device Settings, then General Settings.
  3. Tap Delete Device at the bottom, then confirm.

Blink emails you a confirmation with the camera’s name and serial number. If the camera is offline, tap the Camera Offline notification, then Delete.

To delete a Sync Module you must be next to it. Tap Sync Module on the Home screen, tap Delete Sync Module, tap OK, scan the QR code or enter the serial number from the label, then tap DELETE and unplug it. To remove a whole system, go to Settings, Device and System Settings, pick the system and tap Delete System. Deleting your Blink account is optional.

If it doesn’t work

  • “Serial already registered” during setup. The device is still on another account. The original owner has to delete it. Blink says that if you bought second-hand and cannot reach the seller, its support team cannot resolve it.
  • Mini light stays solid red. It cannot connect to your network, or the Wi-Fi password is wrong. Blink says to contact support if the light has not changed within 120 seconds. For signal problems, see how to build a smart home network.
  • Doorbell red LED does not flash. After the five-second battery pull, Blink says to fit new AA lithium non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Sync Module shows solid red. It cannot join your Wi-Fi, or the password is wrong. Check the password and power cycle it. If it continues, use the factory reset.
  • A deleted camera will not add again. Blink says to remove its batteries or unplug it for at least 15 seconds before setup. For a Mini 2K+, Blink says to hold the reset button for five seconds.

On the back of the doorbell for the Video Doorbell (1st Gen), Battery Doorbell 2K+ and Wired Doorbell 2K+. Blink’s Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) pages do not describe a reset button and tell you to remove the batteries for five seconds instead.

Partly. The button resets on the Mini, Mini 2, Mini 2K+, doorbells and Sync Modules are done on the device itself, with no app step. Every method Blink gives for deleting a device from an account uses the Blink app, and so does setting the device up again.

The current owner deletes the camera in the Blink app under More (…), Device Settings, General Settings, Delete Device. The new owner then adds it to their own account. Blink states that a reset on the Mini and Mini 2 does not do this.
